With three distinctive spaces The Vivian shows internationally-renowned and local artists in curated and group shows interspersed by talks, performances, and events.
An important part of The Vivian experience is the ability to connect extraordinary art with ordinary people. In ways that educate, invigorate, and perhaps even liberate. One thing’s for sure, whether you find something you love (or hate), you’ll learn something about art. Where it’s going. Where it’s been. Or where it is now.
We love our building. Purpose-built by artist and designer Mike Petre, it offers three distinctive spaces to experience different kinds of art, all-year-round. With about a dozen shows per year, there’s always something going on – including talks, performances, unique events… and the odd dog running through the gallery.
A dedicated venue for larger curated shows, talks, and events.
An intimate space primarily for local artists and smaller shows.
Here you’ll often find smaller artworks, pottery and ceramics.

Welcoming engaging and always inspiring, The Vivian is a contemporary art space unlike anything else in New Zealand. Bring the kids, the dog (we have dog posts with water bowls outside) and an open mind.
About an hour from Auckland, The Vivian is easy to find. Drive through the Matakana roundabout (with cinema on your left) and keep going for 2.5km, past the Sawmill Brewery (beer heaven), before turning left. We’re 400m along Omaha Valley Rd.
